Get Your Sweet Tooth Under Control and Lower Your Cancer Risk

(PCM) Eat too many sweets and you risk increasing your waistline, or worse, your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes. This raises concern for a number of reasons: Diabetes affects many of our major organs, including the heart, blood vessels, nerves, eyes and kidneys, which can lead to disabling or eve life-threatening complications like heart disease, nerve and kidney damage, eye and foot damage, Alzheimer’s disease, and possibly even cancer.

In type 2 diabetes, either the body does not produce enough insulin or the cells ignore the insulin (insulin resistant). When people become insulin-resistant, the body produces more of the hormone to compensate. When this happens it can cause certain tissues, including those in the breast and colon, to speed up in growth, which leads to damage that can result in cancer.

Keep your blood sugar in check! Avoid simple carbohydrates, like white bread, candy, and sweets; the body processes quickly, which causes a spike in blood sugar and insulin levels.
