Believe it or not, 49 percent of men in the U.S. admit to not using any sunscreen in the past year, according to a recent study from the Skin Care Foundation. The study also found that men are twice as likely than women to develop and die from melanoma. It’s not exactly brain science – if you don’t protect your skin with sunscreen, you’re taking a risk.
Then again, perhaps men just don’t understand the dangers of unprotected sun exposure. In fact, 70 percent of man surveyed said they don’t know what skin cancer signs to look for; 79 percent are not aware that the recommended amount of SPF per application is one ounce (oh…); and 61 percent of men think you should re-apply every four hours (instead of the recommended 2)!
Do women care more about the dangers and warning signs of skin cancer, or are they just more concerned with the anti-aging side of things, whereas men could care less about a few extra wrinkles?
Whatever the reason, the bottom line is that women are protecting their skin and men are not.
So next time you seen your man try and skip the lotion, intervene! You just might save his life.
