SPF in Makeup – Is It Enough Protection?

(PCM) You know the importance of wearing sunscreen on a daily basis, whether you’re at the beach or just heading out to run errands. But, how well does the sunscreen in your makeup protect your skin?

Unfortunately, not very well. To get the benefits of the SPF listed on the bottle, you would need to apply one teaspoon on your face and neck. If you put that much foundation on your face, well, it wouldn’t exactly look good! So despite the SPF 15 on your bottle of foundation or powder, you’re not getting adequate protection, unless you’re applying something extra underneath.

Even still, experts advise reapplying sunscreen every 2 hours. How do you reapply sunscreen if you’re already wearing makeup? In the morning, apply a moisturizer with a high SPF, then apply your liquid foundation (with extra SPF). Carry a powder containing SPF with you in your purse for extra protection without having to reapply your makeup. Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Pressed Powder has a titanium dioxide + zinc oxide-based SPF 30, and it’s affordable at $19.

It may seem like a lot of trouble, but your skin is worth it!
