(PCM) There are plans in the works for a major sex party to take place in Toronto this summer, but here’s the catch … you must be disable to attend. The event is being put together by Stella Palikarova, who suffers from muscular atrophy and feels that it is time to change the minds of those who think that people who suffer from disabilities don’t want or require sex and intimacy.
The event, which is scheduled to take place on August 14 at Buddies in Bad Times Theatre, an LGBTQ cabaret and stage space, will be called “Deliciously Disabled” and will have room for about 25 people in wheelchairs to attend and another 40 people for standing room.
Palikarova told the local news in Toronto that she feels many people “subconsciously hate the fact that disabled people and those in wheelchairs are having great sex — better sex than a lot of people are currently having”.
The even will feature a burlesque performance, have a toy workshop and attendees are permitted to wear mask if the choose. They also have the option to have sex, but only if they want to, it is not a requirement to attend.
Another organizer of the event Andrew Morrison-Gurza who suffers from cerebral palsy, claims that the event is the perfect way to bring awareness to the fact that yes, people who are disabled do have libidos and you don’t have to be fearful that they will injure themselves in bed. He claims that it is the fear that can take away the fun.
The event is certainly beginning to stir up some controversy, but the event organizers claim they are ready for that and that no progress was ever made without a little bit of controversy along the way.
