Weight Watchers Founder Jean Nidetch Dead At Age 91

Jean-Nidetch1

(PCM) Weight Watchers diet plan founder Jean Nidetch has passed away at the age of 91 in her Parkland, Florida home. Nidetch started the incredibly successful business after losing 70 pounds, going down from a weight of 214 to 142. To help keep the weight off she began hosting weekly meetings with her friends at her home.

The original Weight Watchers diet plan consisted of lean meats, fruits and vegetables, but the most important ingredient was always emotional support. The company went public in 1968 and soon Nidetch and her friends who launched the original weekly meeting concept became millionaires.

Weight Watchers continues to be one of the most popular diet plans to this day. It has certainly changed with the times and adopted a new Points system for calculating food allowances, but the weekly meeting and support concept has always remained the same.

Our sincere condolences go out to Jean Nidetch’s family and friends during this incredibly difficult time.
