(PCM) Turning grey is one of the most common concerns of aging Americans, so there can be a lot of confusion (and certainly plenty of myths) surrounding it: What causes grey hair? Should you pluck your grey hairs or cut them out? And the most common aging myth of them all…plucking out grey strands causes more to grow in.
Dr. Oz confirmed that it is, in fact, just a big myth. It’s not possible for the surrounding follicles to turn grey from plucking one hair out, however, it can cause your grey hairs to grow back in a more noticeable way.
Plucking can cause irritation and even destruction of the hair follicle. When new hair grows back in – if it isn’t too destroyed for hair to grow in at all – it can grow in the opposite direction of surrounding hairs, or even straight out. This can make your grey hairs much more noticeable, which is perhaps why this myth is so commonly believed.
A little grey hair never hurt anyone; just let it be! Why torture yourself trying to find single grey hairs on your head?
