Be Eco-Chic! Lauren Conrad Shares her Five-Step Game Plan

With Earth Day just around the corner, everyone is thinking about how to live a greener lifestyle. But instead of waiting for April 22nd, why not get an early start on your new eco-friendly initiatives? You don’t have to install solar panels on your roof or start growing all your own produce in the backyard, small, simple changes can make a big difference.

Always recycle, and reuse what you can. Bring reusable bags to the grocery store, buy locally, get a reusable water bottle, turn off lights and carpool when it’s an option!

Lauren Conrad, fashion designer, author, and reality star, shared a few of her own eco-friendly tips on her website in honor of the upcoming holiday. It’s nice to see celebrities making an effort and spreading the word about living a greener lifestyle!

Here’s her five-step game plan:

1. Instead of depending on disposable bags offered by stores, I am going to use a reusable bag for all of my shopping needs. Yes, even clothes shopping!

2. I’m already a huge fan of farmer’s markets, but occasionally I fall victim to grocery store produce due to the convenience factor. Needless to say, I am going to make a conscious effort to focus on shopping locally and planning my shopping schedule around the dates of my favorite farmer’s markets. Being green isn’t just about change; it’s about accommodating your lifestyle too.

3. When I pack my snacks before heading out to work at the Paper Crown offices, I’ll opt for (re)zip baggies instead of plastic baggies.

4. In an effort to be more energy efficient, I will remember to turn the lights off after leaving a room. I am also going to remember to unplug my beauty appliances and cell phone chargers when they are not in use. (Did you know that even if something is turned off, it is still sucks out a bit of energy?)

5. Lastly, I am going to keep a few of these reusable java jackets in my purse so I don’t have to contribute to the billions of coffee cardboard sleeves that are disposed each year. Billions? Yikes!

Start taking care of the planet today!
